Dairy-free Sausage buns

When we went out for coffee at toast box the other day, kids saw a baker making the sausage bun in the kitchen and requested to make sausage bun at home. Sent the hubby to get a pack of sausage but he got this super long sausage πŸ˜… I didn’t realized until after dividing the dough. Hence the extra long ends of baked sausage.

We are not using the soft milk bun recipe as the dough from that recipe will be too sticky for the kids to handle. So using another recipe we used to make. Not as soft as the soft milk bun but it’s good to bake with the kids. Taste is great too. πŸ˜‹

Ingredients

⁃ Bread flour 300g

⁃ Yeast 4g

⁃ Sugar 6g

⁃ Egg 1piece (50g- whisked)

⁃ Water 140ml

⁃ Salt 1/2 tsp

⁃ Dairy-free butter 40g

Glaze/wash:

1 egg yolk + 1 tbsp of water

Steps :

  1. Put half of bread flour into a mixing bowl and add in yeast, sugar, egg and water. Whisk till well combined and yeast activated when small bubbles surfaced in the mixture .
  2. Add in remaining bread flour, salt and butter.

  3. Knead on medium speed till windowpane (around 12mins)

  4. Shape into a big dough ball , seam side down and let proof till doubled in a greased bowl (45 mins)

  5. Degas, and divide dough into 12 parts (total dough 524g so about 43g each)

  6. Preshape it into small buns and let rest for 10 minutes

  7. Flatten the first bun with a rolling pin and roll it up like Swiss roll. Pinch the seam. Roll it into long rope with pointy ends and wrap around the sausage. Try to tuck in the ends. Repeat for the rest.

  8. Let proof for 30 mins on the baking tray.

  9. Brush the surface with egg wash or milk. Bake in preheated oven of 190deg and bake for 15 to 20 mins.

Happy baking with kids

Love,

N
